Paul continues in chapter 5 with his instructions on how we are to live as Christians.  If we misunderstand Paul's motives here, however, as we aim to practice what Paul teaches in these verses, we could find that we have simply replaced the Old Testament Law with another form of law.  This would be to seriously misunderstand Paul's intentions. 

 

Our behaviour under the New Covenant is based on our new love relationship with the Father that we now have because we are 'In Christ'.  It is a relationship in which we are fully and completely accepted in our Lord Jesus.  His righteousness is our righteousness.  We are accepted as 'beloved children', not because of how well we perform.
