Notes:
Although David's adultery and his subsequent murder of her husband Uriah is a harrowing story, it nevertheless shows God as a God of wonderful grace and mercy after David repents and humbles himself before Him.
We are also able to note the difference between punishment for sin, - which those who are in Christ do not have to bear as our sin has all been carried by Jesus, - and God's discipline. David's discipline was severe, in keeping with what he had still to learn about the holiness of the God he served, but in the end, although God did not permit David's son by Bathsheba to live in spite of David's fasting and praying, David found that God still showed great mercy and grace to both David and Bathsheba through the birth of Solomon. |
