David Tomison in Peru PDF Print E-mail

One of our members, David Tomison, (a local dentist) has been involved in working with Union Biblica (the Peruvian Scripture Union) in Peru since 2001 and the Church has been supportive in this financially and prayerfully.  In the early years work was among ‘street boys’, providing dental care mainly in the form of extractions to boys who are homeless or at risk of such.

However, with the arrival of the boat 'Amazon Hope' which has been adapted to meet the medical and dental needs of many people living along the banks of the Amazon River and its tributaries, the facilities are now available to all people free of charge all year round.

The funding for this is now mainly through The Vine Trust which funds two boats with a third being fitted out as of August 2011, with both permanent Peruvian staff/medics/dentists and volunteers mainly from the UK and USA.  The boat is also manned by a Peruvian Scripture Union schools worker who goes into the village schools taking lessons or inviting the kids to the boat in the evening where they learn action songs and watch DVDs and learning of Jesus' love for them.

David's latest trip was in August 2010. Use the following link to see some photos taken along the way:
